“Fintech : Beyond the Hype” Panel Discussion | BizCare

On the 17th of October 2018, more than 40 Business students turned up at the “FinTech: Beyond the Hype” Panel Discussion, organized by the Business Career Development Committee (BizCare), to have their burning questions answered by successful Business School Alumni who are well-versed in the industry. The panel consisted of Wu Minfei (FinTech and Innovation at DBS), Albert Ho (Chief Strategy Officer of Rate), Kenneth Lou (Co-Founder and CEO of Seedly) and Celeste Chia (Management Associate at Mastercard).

Topics such as the impact of FinTech on the payment gateway of existing financial firms, FinTech applications in both the corporate and start-up world as well as Blockchain and Cryptocurrency gave the participants a much clearer insight into the hot topic industry, and the exciting opportunities available. Panelists also shared their personal academic journey and their path to success, providing invaluable advice to the students and inspiring them to craft their own path. The event wrapped up successfully with a networking session, where participants took the chance to get acquainted with the alumni and seek further advice.

After the panel discussion, Lester Sim, a Year 2 BBA student, shared:

“The FinTech panel discussion gave me fresh new perspectives from the ground with professionals from both the startup industry and the corporate world. One key takeaway was the importance of the ASEAN region in terms of its future growth in the Fintech industry and how we as students can increase our overseas exposure to these countries. It was also great to hear the advice from the panelist, who are NUS Business School Alumni, as they share their university experiences and how they have developed into their various career paths. A great event with an interesting topic put together by BizCare and I look forward to attending more of such events to gain a better understanding of the various industries!”

Zhang Jin Lin, Head of Events (Panel Discussion) of BizCare, saw the entire event through from the planning to the execution.

“It was a highly informative and enlightening session for me personally, and hopefully for those who attended as well! I’m glad that the panel discussion went smoothly, and especially happy to see the students and panelists network with each other even after the event itself.”

And with that, BizCare concludes a productive and insightful panel discussion with many students walking away with a greater understanding of the industry, and with a new found drive to achieve their goals.
