IR Orientation Day 2019

On the 10thof January 2019, International Relations (IR) held an Orientation Day for exchange students. It was a one-day event which aimed to kickstart NUS school life for Semester 2 student exchangers with fun-filled activities and informative welcome addresses.

To start off, our excited local student buddies befriended the exchange students assigned to their Orientation Group. Hold up, it was not just all talk though! We also prepared goodie bags! Welcome packs filled with yummy local snacks and vouchers were also distributed to them – after all, food always strengthens bonds. After the welcome addresses by our Academic Dean Dr Helen Chai and Year 1 BBA and USP student Gaw Ban Siang, Ms. Jessie Toh also gave an academic briefing, to give our exchangers a better idea of what NUS Business had to offer. With all the talks out of the way, our buddies and exchangers then set off for the engaging campus tour!

Our student buddies introduced the exchangers to local specialties like carrot cake and siew mai, which were offered as post-tour refreshments. It was heartening seeing our student buddies sharing personal anecdotes and experiences as they had their refreshments!

After a short break, it was time for our anticipated Welcome Party at Sapore Restaurant in NUS University Town. It was the ideal setting for exchangers to mingle around with other exchange students and local buddies while enjoying thelive performances, food and drinks.

For many of these exchangers, it was their first time being in Singapore – we can only imagine what it’d feel like having to adapt to a new country (one you’ve never been to at that!). As such, we hope we’ve eased them into Singapore’s culture and student life here in NUS, making the process of adjusting even just a little bit easier. Want to be part of their experience? Stay tuned for more events held for our exchangers as well as opportunities for you to participate!
